Phi Alpha Theta International history honor society's Alpha Zeta Mu was chartered at Christopher Newport University in April of 1993. This society is one of the most prestigious in the academic community. Students who are interested in membership must meet the following academic standards: - Have at least 12 credit hours in history in which six of these credits must be at the 300 - 400 level,
- Have a 3.1 GPA in history credit hours,
- Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0,
- Rank in the top 35% of their class
